Life Update: Regular Employee

Hello!

So last month, I hit a new “milestone” in my life. I was finally regularized in my current job after five months of working there.

So if you’re unaware or confused by what I’m talking about, I’ll explain it a bit for you. Here in my country, companies may require a person to undergo a probationary period after they are hired for a job. This probationary period would last up to six months maximum. Depending on the company’s policy, it may take less time similar to what I experienced. Anyways, this probationary period is a period allowed for the company to assess if someone fits well in the company or if someone performs up to par with the company’s standard. In other words, companies are given trial period to see if the newly-hired employee is suited for the company. Depending on the employee’s company fit or performance, they could become regularized or dismissed.

Going back to my “milestone”…

This is my first time experiencing becoming regularized even if my current job is already my second work experience. The reason why is because I resigned from my first job a few weeks prior to being regularized. I resigned because I was given an opportunity to work in my current job. So when I transferred, I had to experience being under probationary period again.

I knew from the start that this is something I would probably experience after transferring but I did it anyways because I knew that if I worked hard and got along well with my bosses and colleagues, I would eventually be regularized. So for the past five months before being regularized, I worked hard and of course, enjoyed the company of the people around me.

With this, I realized a few things.

One of them is that no matter how daunting the challenge may seem, I think if it’s for self-improvement and getting into something better, it would be worth it to take a risk. After all, if you work hard and have faith, eventually everything will fall into place. I think it takes an open mind as well because new things come with unexpected surprises and experiences that will eventually help you grow so I think having an open mind when coming into challenges is really helpful.

Another thing is that the uncomfortable feeling that comes with new experiences goes away. I can’t say that it goes away fast but it does especially when you try hard to find out what makes you uncomfortable with your new situation. This feeling goes away because you will eventually get into your new role as well as the novelty of the situation would wear off after a few weeks or even days.

All in all, one message that I want you to get is that don’t fear changes or challenges. They could lead you to where you want to be.

That’s all for now, bye!

First Job I Adulting Series

Hello!

Sorry that I have been gone for quite some time. Things got a bit busy so I didn’t have a lot of time to sit down and write.

But I have wonderful news!!!!

As you can read from the title, I finally got my first job.

Yay!!!

I just started around a week ago so everything is still so new to me but I feel like I’m starting to adjust to working quite well. I’m already starting to get the hang of doing some parts of the job although there are still things that I don’t know since it hasn’t been taught to me. And there are also things that are still confusing to me because I haven’t fully grasped them yet.

I was also able to start making some new friends. I already have people that I spend time with during lunch breaks. Although I still have a hard time remembering a lot of people’s names but I’m trying my best to remember their names and faces.

A work day for me is usually a bit exhausting since I work about an hour longer than the usual eight hours because we have a compressed work week. A compressed work week means that instead of going to work six days a week, we would only need to go to work for five days but instead of the usual eight hours a day work schedule we have nine hours. So for now, I usually feel like it’s been a long day because I’m trying to take in a lot of information so that I would do my job well. But I guess it’s fine to feel this way for now because I’m still not in the routine mode for doing things so learning everything is still taking a lot of cognitive energy from me.

Don’t get me wrong though because I’m enjoying everything because I feel so productive lately. This is probably due to me feeling like I’m finally doing something for my career life. I’m also enjoying the corporate environment so far even if it really hits you hard that you’re not a kid anymore because they don’t treat you like a kid anymore. It also adds to feeling more responsible because I feel like I now have responsibilities that I need to do by myself. I’m also enjoying meeting new people from my work and trying to be friends with more people. It’s fun for me to make friends with people that are much older than me because I’m used to making friends with people around my age (may include people who are a bit older or younger than me) but not usually with people who are much older.

All in all, I’m so thrilled to finally have my first job. Even if I’m busier now compared to before, I’m enjoying everything.

I guess that’s all for now. If you want me to write more about job-hunting or things related to that, you can comment or message me about it. Maybe I can give you some tips or maybe you can give your tips to others who may be in this situation.

Bye!

Things I’ve Learned While Job-hunting I Adulting

Hello!

I think I haven’t updated you in a while about my job-hunting experience.

So…

I’m still on that journey. I’m still searching for the job for me. And right now, I think that things are looking up compared to the last time I wrote an update. The reason why I say that things seem to be looking up now is because I’m getting more invites for an interview or an initial screening. I’ve also been able to reach farther than the initial stage lately. There has been times that I’ve been interviewed by the hiring manager and right now, there are some positions that I’m just waiting for their call or job offer.

I wanted to write this update not only to talk about what’s going on in my life but also because I’ve been learning a lot of things lately as well and maybe these things I’ve learned are things that could help you if you’re in a same situation as me.

So… one of the biggest things I’ve learned is that I really need to have faith in God and in myself. I’m not really someone who likes to talk about religion in public spaces because I’m aware that not everyone likes that but it has been more apparent to me lately that not everything could be under my control. I can’t control how people might perceive me and I can’t control how every situation goes. These things really affected me because there has been so many times in my job-hunting experience where I feel disappointed in myself because I sometimes felt that I wasn’t enough or that I might not be as good as I thought I was. A lot of experiences made me feel doubt in myself. But the thing was that during those desperate times when I don’t know what to think or feel anymore, I’ve been told to just surrender everything to God and lift up my worries to Him. And let me tell you that it really helped me. It helped relieve my stress about the situation because I felt like I had someone far greater than me to lean on. Someone that won’t let me down because He only wants what’s best for me. The feeling is freeing and it feels like a large weight has been lifted off my shoulder.

I’m not telling you to change your views because whatever we all have different beliefs but if you have similar views as me, maybe you can try what I did but just adapt it to your specific beliefs when you feel like you don’t know what to do anymore or when you feel like nothing’s going your way anymore. I’m telling you now how good it feels to get that weight lifted off of your shoulders.

Another thing I learned is that patience really is key in these kinds of situations because we have competition for the job and it’s not a very easy process for the companies as well. I guess we have to keep in mind that we’re not the only ones that are being interviewed or screened for the job and that the companies are trying to see who fits into the position and into the company culture as well. I learned to wait and be patient because I’ll only end up stressing myself out if I pressure myself too much. This is not to say that you shouldn’t keep going out there to apply to jobs. While waiting, you can apply to other jobs so that you could have more options or backups and so that you don’t spend a lot of time waiting for something that isn’t guaranteed yet. Also, don’t rush the companies and don’t put pressure on yourself to get a job as quickly as possible because you don’t want to end up saying yes to jobs that you’re still hesitant with or you don’t feel happy with.

I also learned of ways to keep energized whenever I already feel tired in the middle of the week since I’ve recently been getting job interview or initial screening invites almost everyday. I’m super thankful for that because I feel like it brings me one step closer to getting my dream job. But since I go out to different places everyday, there are times when I feel tired especially with the commutes and the long waiting. I think that these are things that most people might struggle with as well because sometimes those things are more tiring than the actual interviews or tests.

But what I do is that I keep in mind the goals that I’ve set for myself and I think about how these tiring commutes and long waiting times are just challenges for me to pass through before getting my dream job. These has also served as ways for me to get a better knowledge about myself. Through these, I’ve realized how determined I am because no matter how tired I am and how much uncertainties there are, I’m still willing to go through these situations.

I’ve also realized how supportive my loved ones are because they try to adjust with my experiences as well. I’ve also felt their support during the times when my self-doubts were overwhelming. They always tried to cheer me up and made me feel like I can do it and I will succeed. There was also always someone who reminded me that it’s not always my fault when I don’t get a job offer because there’s so many things that could have affected their decision.

So these are some of the things I’ve learned so far that I want to share with you in case you need it or in case you’re experiencing the same thing as me. I’m definitely going to update you once again when I finally get job offers.

But for now…

Bye!

My Job Hunting Experience So Far… I Adulting

Hello!

So… right now, I’m trying to look for a job. I don’t really know how to describe the whole experience but I really truly feel like an adult now. I feel like I’m so ready to take on the world and be successful in what I choose to do but at the same time I feel so vulnerable and somehow unprepared.

First of all, I feel a bit vulnerable about looking for a job because even if I’ve been dependent on my parents and other adults for most of my life, I feel like I’ve never been this dependent on a single person’s acceptance. I do understand that they’re trained professionals and that they’re probably trying to be unbiased to give chance to most people but I feel like I’ve never been so nervous about how someone would perceive me and what I have done in my life so far. I know that I have to present my best self but at the same time, I feel like I have to show them the real me so that they could also see my uniqueness but I think that there may be a fine line between the two and I have to somehow be careful so that I don’t present myself in a bad light.

But maybe as I get more responses from employers, the feeling of being vulnerable may go away. Also, I think that thinking positively helps me because when I try to get rid of negative thoughts, it greatly helps in calming me down. I know that it’s not so easy to think positive especially for some people and I know that because I am like that but I’ve been making an active choice in trying to think positively for years now and I noticed that it has helped me a lot because I feel like when I started thinking positively, I’ve been attracting more positive things in my life compared to the times when I was so negative.

Second thing is that I think that the number one reason and probably the only reason why I feel like I’m somehow unprepared is because I never got to experience undergoing an internship. I feel like having an internship is a good advantage in job hunting because of the experience and exposure you get out of it. And I completely lost out on that.

However, I don’t feel totally at a loss because I feel like I have a strong educational background because I do believe that I went to really good schools. Also, I feel like I’m quite competent, positive, and persistent which I think is a good combination because I’m still super motivated and determined even with the chance that I might be at a bit of a disadvantage when it comes to experience.

All in all, I don’t really let rejections and not so happy occurrences get me down. I feel like the right and perfect job will come if I just persist and continue looking. I strongly believe in not giving up. I feel like praying helps a lot but if you don’t take steps (no matter how big or small) to help you get to your goals then how can what you pray for be given to you if you don’t even do anything about it.

Also, I am somehow finding this experience fun and exciting because I’ve gotten to do things that I’ve never really been brave enough to do on my own before. Also, I feel like I’ve been learning how to do interviews along the way and to fine tune how I present myself which is always a good thing, I guess.

Anyway… I guess that’s all for now. I just wanted to get some of these thoughts out because I feel like it’s something I’ve been thinking about for a while now.

Bye!
