Hello!
Sorry about posting late again. Work has been hectic lately and I might not be able to have a fixed posting schedule until things settle down.
Anyways… Let’s move on to the post!
Last July, I watched “The Kissing Booth 2” a day after it was released. I was actually very excited about this release because I watched the first movie about two years ago and I liked it. It also helps that the whole cast seemed to have a glow up for this film.
So the movie continued where the first movie left off. Noah is now a freshman at Harvard while Lee and Elle are now high school seniors. Since Noah is now in Boston, he and Elle are now in a long distance relationship since Elle is in California for her senior year in high school. Because of this, Elle now has to juggle her relationships and school.
The main conflict of the film came in the form of Elle’s choice for university. Initially, she was set on going to UC Berkeley with Lee because that’s where their moms went to college and became best friends. Because of that, they dreamed of going to that university since they were kids. But Noah tried to convince her to apply to Harvard so that they can be together when she starts university and so that they won’t be having a long distance relationship anymore. Since she’s still weighing her options, Elle applies to both universities and other fallback colleges in California and Boston.
Also, because of the success of their kissing booth the previous year, Elle and Lee has to organize another kissing booth for their fundraiser and make it as successful as the previous year by getting Marco to participate in it. Marco is a new student who became the new campus heartthrob because everybody thought that he is hot. However, Elle initially finds it difficult to approach him to ask him to participate because she kind of had an unpleasant run in with him after he teased her when her thoughts when she saw a video of him working out was accidentally announced to the whole school. But Lee and Elle found a way to get him to participate by challenging him to a game of DDR.
Along the way, Elle and Marco grow closer because Marco filled in for Lee to help Elle join a DDR competition that has a cash prize that could help her go to Harvard should she pass and decide to go to university there. Marco then develops feelings for Elle while Elle is also somehow attracted to Marco but she still loves and chooses Noah over him.
While all of this is going on, not everything was going good with Noah and Elle’s long distance relationship because Elle got jealous of Noah’s closeness with Chloe who was Noah’s new close friend and schoolmate. According to Noah, they’re only friends and that there’s nothing going on between them because he loves Elle. Because of this, he tried to appease Elle’s jealousy by hiding things from her which made things worse because when Elle found Chloe’s earrings under Noah’s bed, she immediately thinks that he’s cheating on her. I think she can’t really be fully blamed for getting mad at him and thinking that it’s possible that he’s cheating on her because of Noah’s reputation before they started dating.
Elle also had a conflict with Lee because he found out that she was considering going to Harvard and she didn’t tell him. This really hurt Lee because all this time, he was really looking forward to going to Berkeley with his best friend. Plus this was the second time that she tried to hide a really big secret from him because as you may remember, he felt betrayed when he initially found out that Noah and Elle were dating.
All in all, I think I loved this movie a little bit more compared to the first one because it was a bit less cringey to watch and I think it had a bit of character development for most of the characters. Also, I think their acting had also improved a bit. They didn’t seem as over acting as before.
I’m looking forward to the third film because this movie ended with a cliffhanger that made me want to know more and see what happens next. We learn that Elle was accepted in both Berkeley and Harvard so she has to choose which university she would attend which would surely greatly affect her relationship with the Flynn brothers.
That’s all for now, bye!
